The Longest Day
La Bruna with the Materani
This is our most intense and longest experience: an entire day, from dawn to late night, inside the feast of the Madonna della Bruna, Matera's patron saint.
You live the shepherds' procession at dawn, the wait in the streets, the parade of the papier-mâché triumphal float and, as evening falls, the most powerful and moving moment: the crowd's ritual assault and destruction of the float, a gesture the people of Matera experience as an act of devotion rather than mere festivity.
